The San Diego Zoo turns 90 in 2006. One of the best ways to see at least 75% of the Zoo is to go on a guided tour on the double-decked buses. It also lets you see the Zoo from a different point of view, especially for first time visitors.

It helps you get familiar with the whole Zoo so you can come back and re-visit the spots you liked best. The tour itself lasts around 40 minutes and a bus tour ticket is valid for this as well as the Express Bus, which lets you get off and on at five locations around the Zoo for the day.

The Zoo has a program called the Roar and Snore Beastly Bedtime sleepover that gives you the opportunity to meet the animals up close and enjoy a picnic at the campsite. These sleepovers are themed and usually offered in July and August.

Another very interesting trip is the Skyfari ride that gives you an aerial view of the Zoo. It is a feast to the eyes to see the treetops, its animal and plant collection and the Balboa Park nearby. The San Diego Zoo now runs the Balboa Park Miniature Railroad – it takes you on short rides around a part of the Park. For a spectacular ride through the plains of Africa, the Wild Earth Safari Ride is located just across from the Zoo’s Reptile House. And for those who enjoy a good hike, you can always stroll right through.

Apart from the above, there are special speakers who share their wild life experiences throughout the year at the Zoo. The Zoo also has summer, winter and spring camps for kids to explore the enchanting world of animals.
