The
San Diego Wild Animal Park is about 25 years old and lets you discover
animals roaming free in huge natural enclosures. There are many endangered,
exotic and rare species here and you can actually touch and feed a
giraffe or a rhino.
You don’t really have to travel all the way to Africa to enjoy
the wildlife! If you get on the Wagasa Bush Railway for a 55-minute
5-mile tour you get an incredible sight of herds of elephants, zebras
and giraffes. You can even go on a trek through the ‘Heart of
Africa’ which is a 32-acre adventure safari simulating the dense
forests and grassy savannahs of Africa. This is a newly introduced
section in the Wild Animal Park.
What can you see at the Wild Animal Park? The Lion Camp – where
you can see a pride of lions – watching over the other animals
on the East Africa plains. You can catch a few pictures really close
to the Lions.
The Condor Ridge has a dozen species of birds, mammals and reptiles.
You can see desert bighorn sheep, aplomado falcons and vibrantly green
thick-billed parrots. As you stroll through Lorikeet Landing, you
experience the rainforests of Australia, which is the natural habitat
of the beautiful rainbow lorikeet. Nairobi Village an active village
with shops, restaurants, animal exhibits and activity centers. You
can touch the animals in the Petting Kraal. Kids especially love this.
You can buy food pellets and feed the animals here.
Because of the park’s size, you can have a great walking experience
through the Kilimanjaro Safari Walk.
The San Diego Wild Animal Park is an accredited botanical garden,
and has a diverse and extensive collection of plants.
