The
San Diego La Jolla Underwater Park Ecological Reserve is a 6000 acre
underwater park that actually encompasses two other parks.
The Ecological Reserve founded in 1971 which spans from La Jolla cove
all the way to La Jolla Shores. This area is a “Free Swimming
Zone” and boating is permitted only at speeds of five miles
per hour. No fishing is allowed as it is also a marine refuge.
The second park is the Scripps Institution of Oceanography’s
Marine Life Refuge established in 1929 and serves as a research area
for Scripps.
The park has two artificial reefs, the first is located near Scripps
Canyon in 70 feet of water and made with quarry rock from Santa Catalina.
The second reef is off the glider port and was started in 1975.
Many popular activities in the reserve include swimming, diving and
snorkeling. Kayaking, fishing the outer kelp beds and just observing
the vast array of biological diversity..
Location:
La Jolla Shores, La Jolla, CA 92037.

Comment: Have
been snorkeling there the past 2 weekends, enjoying the unusually
good visibility. enjoyed the massive numbers of Garibaldi and various
other kelp fish. thanks for making the 360 pic available. gave me
a view I'd not seen from the La Jolla Cove area.
