Probably
no other destination has been photographed as much as La Jolla. With
a Mediterranean feel, breathtaking scenery and friendly residents
- La Jolla – “the jewel” - is just 15 minutes from
downtown San Diego and a favorite vacation destination for a lot of
people.
La Jolla has southern California’s most picturesque and magnificent
coastline – plus excellent weather. Whether you are an art buff
or prefer to shop till you drop or simply just want to laze around
or live it up – La Jolla has it all – renowned art galleries,
dazzling boutiques, beautiful beaches – and a variety of hotels,
cuisines, events and attractions.
Only your imagination can limit the possibilities for adventure in
La Jolla. The Torrey Pines or Blacks Beach on the diverse coastline
with the imposingly majestic 300-foot cliffs is a hiker’s dream.
Don’t be too shocked when you stumble upon a nudist camp, though!
The beach is great for surfing, though scuba diving is not recommended
since access is difficult. It is tee-time on top of the cliffs –
with golfers enjoying a good game. You can explore the caves and other
interesting landmarks like the Scripps Institute of Oceanography and
the Stephen Birch Aquarium & Museum that has an aquarium with
live marine life.
The Cove is a paradise for swimming and diving. It tends to get very
crowded here during the day – so if you’d rather have
some privacy, head for the La Jolla Shores during late afternoon.
Feast your eyes on the different shades of green of the palm trees,
lawns and pretty flowers, complemented by the blue of the ocean. Your
reward will be the most beautiful sunset ever, glimmering over the
Pacific, long after the crowds have left. Here you can swim, scuba
dive and surf.
Just don’t forget to carry your camera!
