Last
call for alcohol! On Saturday, August 26, the Del Mar Racetrack presents
the last of this year’s two annual Microbrew Festivals, chased
by a Jimmy Eat World concert. Adults won’t be the only fans
to enjoy the day; family-friendly events include a Cuervo Legends
of Beach Volleyball tournament and Family Fun in the Infield.
Beginning at noon, the Microbrew Festival will provide racing fans
and brew aficionados the opportunity to wet their lips with famed
beers, including Red Tail, Firestone, Full Sail, Pyramid, Firehouse,
Pizza Port and Stone. The Infield will transform into a beer lover’s
paradise with more than 20 local breweries serving their best brews
for purchase by fun-seeking race fans 21 and older.
Following the races, famed pop/rock band Jimmy Eat World will take
the stage for an all-ages, free performance. The band will continue
on a two-and-a-half year tour mounted from the success of their latest
CD, Futures. Rolling Stone recently placed Jimmy Eat World on its
annual Hot List.
Energetic fans eager to catch more than ponies in action can jump
to the Infield for the Cuervo Legends of Beach Volleyball tournament.
Two-man teams will compete in a round-robin format between post times
throughout the day with a final match showcased after the races.
Star-struck
fans may find a thrill in watching the celebrity match that will sport
some of the world’s greatest volleyball players 3Zą4 such as
Mike Whitmarsh, Tim Hovland and Randy Stoklos 3Zą4 alongside some
of Del Mar’s favorite jockeys.
Family Fun Weekends offer inflatable games and rides, magic shows,
face painting and other carnival festivities throughout the day for
kids’ enjoyment while their parents wager on the ponies.
All the day’s events are free with paid admission into the racetrack.
Admission is free for children under 18 and $6 for adults. Gates open
at 11:30 a.m. with first post at 2 p.m.
