The San Diego Museum of Art was first opened in 1926 and it is located in the heart of Balboa Park. It is the county’s largest art institution housing European, American, Asian and contemporary art along with Spanish and Italian masters.

You can also see 19th and 20th century American paintings and sculptures by popular contemporary California artists. It is the region's primary resource for exhibitions and collections of fine art for more than 75 years. You get the chance to learn and connect with various cultures. The Museum of Art operates from Tuesday through Saturday.

In addition to its nationally renowned permanent collection, the museum also holds major exhibitions of art from artists from around the world. It sees more than 500,000 visitors every year and has a regular schedule of supporting programs and learning opportunities.

If you go to The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego which has two locations, one in La Jolla and one in downtown San Diego you can see more than 3000 works of art depicting every major art movement during the last 50 years. The two-site Museum of Contemporary Art is one of San Diego’s best, with its daring exhibitions and wonderful collection of art that includes paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, photographs, video and multimedia work.

The main location at La Jolla is in the Ellen Browning Scripps house, which has a unique architectural design and dazzling ocean views. The second facility in downtown San Diego is in the American Plaza, directly across the street from the La Jolla Cove is an elite location and hosts a lot of special events. Both individuals and corporations can rent the facilities at MCASD, La Jolla throughout the year.
